No one will ever know (aka buwahahhaa i cheat).
I’m sorry. I really am. I know I haven’t written in a while. Okay more like, a month and a half, but really. I’m trying. As October ends, I feel like this phase of my sophomoric life (the unbelievably lazy part) will pass, and a more productive fuel will jumpstart me again. With a promise of more updates, I’ll do one better: I’ll also fill in the gaps from September until now. There were a lot of really awesome things I forgot to document, and because Wordpress is so friggin’ awesome, it’ll be like I never took this little hiatus (aka no one will ever know), except you guys who are just now tuning in. But you probably won’t remember for long. Because once I get it all figured out, I’ll delete this post, too.
And it’ll be but a dream (aka buwahahhaa i cheat).
But anyway. Today, I felt inspired. In my JEM 200, reknown journalist, parenting writer, and my new profound heroine Katie Allison Granju came to speak to us. She was, in so many ways, amazing. Seriously, she rocked my world. Generally, guest speakers can be a little iffy, unentertaining, and sometimes just plain boring, but this was definitely not the case. I knew from the syllabus a “Katie Allison Funny Lastname” was coming to speak, but it wasn’t until she was there, pulling up some of her work before class to show on the overhead projector that I REALIZED who she was.
And oh my god, my fangirl shiot hit the FAN. All the alarms went off in my head, “I’ve READ her work! I KNOW her.” And not only that, but “HOLY COW SHE’S AWESOME.” Needlessly to say…I’m a fan. The most recent and probably one of the most FAMOUS pieces she’s done is the Erin McLean (of Knoxville love-triangle-drama fame) interview with the Knoxville News Sentinel. Oh yeah, that crazy 4 page (probably 5000 words) piece? Yeah, you read it. So did I.
And she was so cool. She talked about how she started off as a journalist (unconvential as she claimed, it was like listening to a ROCK LEGEND who started off doing ballet or something), her family, and what kind of work she does now–she does freelance print, and ONLINE JOURNALISM–blogging! (She even started a Knoxville community blog with WORDPRESS), and even polled us to see if we had domains or wordpress blogs (I totally shot my hand up, haha).
And while I don’t want to give too much away (hell, just check out her site), the whole point of this entry is to say that this is the FIRST TIME in the entire semester that I’ve paid attention the entire class period in JEM 200. NO JOKE. Stovall is cool and all, but it’s hard to look past “professor” and see “warm blooded journalist.”
But I saw one today. And after class, I felt newborn. Like there was a million little particles in my body saying This is it. That’s who I want to be. Someone like that. YES!
So ladies and gentlemen, look out. My brand will be out there someday. Not tomorrow, not the day after. Hell, with my luck, it’ll probably take awhile. But someday. Someday soon.
